In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask and answer the question ‘How are you?’ in Afrikaans.

Michael: Here's the informal way to ask 'How are you?' in Afrikaans.
Dewan: [Normal] Hoe gaan dit?
Michael: First is a word meaning 'how'
Dewan: [Normal] hoe [Slow] hoe
Michael: Next is the word meaning 'go'
Dewan: [Normal] gaan [Slow] gaan
Michael: Last is the word meaning 'it'
Dewan: [Normal] dit [Slow] dit
Michael: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning 'How are you?'

You would even ask the random person that serves you at a shop in the mall or at a petrol station and some might even have funny answers: Goed soos die wind - 'Good like the wind.'
