INTRODUCTION
In the previous lessons, we covered how to ask to get something. In this lesson, we'll introduce another useful phrase for asking for the place where you can find what you are looking for.
BODY
The first phrase of this lesson is for ”Where is the closest place?" First, we need a place. Let's use the word apteek, which means, "pharmacy," or "drugstore."
(slow) apteek
apteek
Using this word, you can ask "Where is the closest pharmacy?" In Afrikaans, this is Waar is die naaste Apteek?
(slow) Waar is die naaste Apteek?
Waar is die naaste Apteek?
Let’s break this down.
The first word is waar, which means, "Where."
(slow) Waar
Waar
Next we have the word is, which means, "is."
(slow) is
is
So far, we have Waar is. Next, we have naaste, which is, "the closest."
(slow) naaste
naaste
Finally, we have apteek meaning ”pharmacy.”
(slow) apteek
apteek
Let’s hear the whole phrase once again. Waar is die naaste apteek? It means ”Where is the closest pharmacy?"
(slow) Waar is die naaste Apteek?
Waar is die naaste Apteek?
To ask for a different place, we can just replace the word apteek with any other word and the phrase works just fine. For example, if you want to ask about ATM, you can use the word OTM which means “ATM” in English.
(slow) OTM
OTM
Using this word, you can ask ”Where is the closest ATM?" In Afrikaans, this is Waar is die naaste OTM?
